Any suggestions on composition when playing in a band?

If you're going to write together by 'jamming' (or improvising) be careful to avoid the 30 minute jam in "E" where it starts out great but never really goes anywhere.
Obviously it's harder to change chords if there's 3 people playing harmonic instruments - so when we find a jam we like - we record it quickly - and then try to write other sections based off that - and it's important to change the harmonic structure around in each new section otherwise everything just gets trapped in one key.
